Darkness Falls
Since there is nowhere else to post it, I may as well say here that a new old American Ripchord song is online for you to umm... listen to. It's an instrumental, one that was liked by the band, but never played much or recorded on more than four track cassette. Go
here already.
Well well well. Today veee begeeen recordeeeeeeeeeeng. Getting guitar tones right, and testing mic placement, seeing how the room sounds. Not the most exciting thing ever, but you've gotta start somewhere.
If there's anyone still reading this, I have news for you! I am almost done putting the finishing touches on a proper full length album, which will be recorded in October, though I have no idea about a release date at this point. I've got around 20 songs prepared, and the best 12 or 13 will end up making the cut. That will be 12 real songs, no boring spoken word, or bouts of electronic noise. I like to think of it as a no-nonsense (or bull****, pick whichever sounds best to you) kind of record. There have been quite a few wild illegitimate urges to add electronic drums & synths to everything, but that's not what this album is about. Sonically, it's much more abrasive and confrontational than what I've done in the past, but it definitely has it's share of pop moments too.
THE APOCALYPSE IS UPON US!!! Maybe not, but my new song "Minefield", and two more tracks from
Frankie Goes to Dollywood are now available at
my download.com site.
"Minefield" is quite a bit different than my recent solo output, it's really much closer to punk... but with electronic drums, and fuzzed-out bass playing chords. I'd like to compare it to Screeching Weasel, but I'll leave that for the A&R jerk at whatever major label decides that this is worthy of a seven record deal.
All of the "songs" from the
Frankie Goes to Dollywood EP are now up, but I'm leaving out the two tracks of noise, because I don't feel they'd be very interesting outside the context of the album. They might not be all that interesting anyhow.
Where have I been for the past several months? Right here, in this chair. That's not entirely accurate, I have been enjoying newfound employment in the ever-hectic grocery industry. I've also been doing several types of writing, and recording some new material. Soon and very soon, said new material will grace my
new site that has sprung up while your back was turned. I know, for those of you that have been to my purevolume site, there isn't much new... yet. In less than one week, I'll be uploading a musical composition that differs slightly from the norm for me. How so, you might ask. One word: electronics. That word may have been the death-knell of many a musician, but trust me, it's just one song, an experiment if you will.
Hooray! The first two songs from the new EP are now available for download at
purevolume.com The actual production of the cds should be done by the end of the week. Local shows to come.
A little composition for your reading pleasure:
When I wake up, it will be morning, or more probably afternoon. I'll feel different than I feel now, or at least I should. I wait for the morning I don't feel better, when sleep isn't enough. Then I would have to confront reality in the daylight, naked, without its midnight cloak of shadows. How many days will this casual progression continue? It goes on so long til I almost can't stand it, and I start praying for some kind of terrible terminal illness - as if that would bring some closure. The truth is, I've already got the disease, like the depths, formless and void. A day and hour unknown, at least to me.
